Strategies for Reaching your 2015 Health Goals

I was so excited to see so many people on New Year’s Day running and walking in all directions! I could just sense the extra motivation and energy in the air – everyone looking forward to a new fresh start to a brand New Year. How long will this last? I wish it was forever… and then the big question came up – How do we keep that momentum going so it doesn’t peeter out in three weeks?

Well, here are a few suggestions that can keep you on track to achieving your New Year’s goals… 1) Write your resolutions down and share them with a family member or friend. Ask them what changes they want to make, too, and then keep each other accountable. Share your results, good or bad, on a weekly or biweekly basis & schedule your conversation on the same day and time.

2) Keep your goals in a place you can see them often and keep track of your progress. If they are out of sight, they’ll be out of mind!

3) Make your New Year’s Resolution SMART – Specific, Measurable, Action Oriented, Realistic, & Time Sensitive. For example, “I want to lose 25 pounds by March 15, 2015″. Don’t forget to write down how you will get there. Will you exercise 30 minutes 4 times per week? Will you bring your lunch to work everyday rather than dining out? Your plan on how you’ll reach your goal is just as important, if not more!

4) If this New Year’s Resolution is one that you have set year after year for yourself, you may want to spend time reflecting on what obstacles are keeping you from reaching them and potentially look for professional support from someone like a LAUNCH! coach.
